INVISIBLE OBJECTS

Week 7 of 12: non-physical art, sound, performances, smells, readings, actions, and ideas

ARTISTS | Caitlind r.c. Brown, Jordan Baylon, Nikki Martens, Wayne Garrett, and Xstine Cook

Outlines in boxes of blue painter’s tape, Caitlind r.c. Brown left a treasure hunt of Domestic Directives around the house, implying specific instructions for different spaces.

Xstine Cook played her eerie musical saw, and invited others to do so also, setting the tone for an open and participatory afternoon.

Jordan Baylon read from a homemade, hand-bound book of his poetry, beginning with poems about his grandparents. Later, after the kids were gone, he shared more intimate, bodily readings.

Wayne Garrett presented a display showing the invisible invested energy that goes into a single grape – water, fuel, energy, transport to Calgary.

We played games, including an invented game of Touch Telephone – wherein a seated line is formed, and the person at the back of the line draws an image on the back of the person in front of them, who draws on the back of the person in front of them, and so forth, until the final person draws on a pad of paper, creating an abstract, often hilarious version of the original drawing.

In the basement, Nikki Martens brought participants into the spare room to encounter a beginner’s dive into simple Telepathy. Using sound and comfort to create a secure and open environment, participants were asked to interpret the shaped in each other’s minds.
